Getting ready to say “Goodbye”

This afternoon the Foundation Stage children enjoyed a visit to the park with their buddies. They gave the cards they had made and listened to the story together “A House for Hermit Crab”.

Go dance!

Today’s sport coach was the dance teacher, Jade, who the children had the chance to work with earlier in the year. They learnt some new cool moves for a street dance routine.

We’re looking forward to golf tomorrow and later in the week we have a climbing wall and wheelchair basketball!

The lifecycle of a frog.

The children have enjoyed watching the tadpoles transform. This morning we were pleased to see some froglets gasping for air and crawling up the side of the tank. Sadly, I think it’s time now for them to return to the pond they came from. Before they left our class the children collected data counting and recording how many tadpoles and froglets we had at the various stages of development in the tank, they drew pictures and wrote about the life cycle of a frog. Some children thought all frogs were green so we researched the colour of frogs and found out that many frogs are camouflaged depending on where they live, some have bright colours to make them look toxic whilst others can change colour depending on their mood or temperature. We talked about how the tadpole starts out with gills like the fish then develops lungs like us.

In PE we explored different ways of jumping. We set up low and medium hurdles, practiced our standing and running long jumps and even had a go at the triple jump (hop, skip, jump).

Creative home task

The children have been bringing in some lovely examples of marine animals that they have made at home. What lovely variety!

I shall magpie the jellyfish in a bottle idea- how clever! Many of the children now want to make one of those so please save any clear/blue bottles to bring in!

Some amazing powerpoint presentations have been bought in by the year 1 children. Wow- I am so impressed!

Exploring boats

DSCF1666We have been reading the story “The Mousehole Cat” by Antonia Barber.
Some of the children built the harbour using building blocks as the breakwater and houses to create a small world map to retell the story. Other children explored moving the boats and creating a wind using pumps and fans for the ‘storm cat’, exploring which made the boats move the fastest or furthest. They questioned did a sail make a difference or the size of the boat or the size of the fan? The Year one children used stop watches or metre sticks to record their findings.

The igloo’s last day

The children enjoyed having story time and fruit time inside our igloo to make the most of it’s last day. My computer chair was transformed into a sledge led by Husky dogs in the children’s imaginative play.
At the end of the afternoon the children helped with the demolition, they rolled around and jumped on the bottles like being in a ball pool at Funfarm!

Please note-You can stop bringing recycled bottles into school now, thank you everyone!
Next term our topic is The Seaside, your child should have a letter in their book bag explaining that the children’s first day back ( Tuesday) will be a “Summer Holiday” all the children have been asked to dress for the beach. One of the requests for our role play area was to have a clothes shop, so if when you are looking through your child’s summer outfits from last year and find there are items which no longer fit we would be grateful for any donations for our dressing up- Thank you!
Happy holidays x
